Antigua Show Dogs, aka "Team Priddy", is a small but well-known Texas family team of hobby breeders, groomers, and handlers. Melissa heads the breeding end of the program, which breaths life into producing proper structure and improving qualities in our coming generations. Dogs bred under the Antigua prefix are destined to be very desirable family dogs and to also be able to compete with the best purebred dogs in the American AKC showring. A BS Management major, Melissa also completed education in Animal Science lending to her knowledge of animal husbandry, breeding, AI's, and gave her a stronger interest in genetics. A second generation handler/breeder, she comes from a background of field trail and working dogs, is a past International level horse trainer and competitor, who also has broad field of knowledge and experience in many years of hands-on breeding and genetics in cattle, horses, and dogs, producing some very well renown animals in their industry on her own & also under her direction and mentoring. She has handled several dogs of various breeds to AKC Championships. Her husband, Rob, is Antigua's cornerstone, handling coach, driver, and realist who keeps our visions in sight. He also helps make travel to competitions possible when an anchorman at home is needed. Brooke and Kayla, their 2 daughters, are becoming avid third generation handlers. Kayla's show handling is just beginning, while Brooke has finished several AKC Champions in 4 different breeds/varieties plus qualified for both Invitationals her first year in Junior Showmanship Competition.
Yes, it takes many layers of expertise to have a successful breeding program. From generations of work on genetic goals of perfecting health and structure with soundness, intelligence, and correct temperament, to handling, training, and grooming, we never stop reaching for higher goals and never stop learning. You may see our Standard Poodles or Chihuahuas at local shows nationwide, or at the Invitationals... Eukanuba Tournament of Champions, and also the prestigious Westminster Dog Show. You may also bump into one of our dogs or puppies in non-show settings like your local neighborhoods and parks, as we have many wonderful companion dogs in family households nationwide.
Although we stay busy with our family interests in exhibiting our dogs as owner/breeder handlers and showing to have the qualities of our dogs recognized, we do take time out for breeding our next future generations. We occasionally offer quality puppies to pre-approved homes. We also may have young adults or retired older show dogs available in certain situations. We focus on breeding the "complete" Standard Poodle along with both varieties of Chihuahuas (that my daughters' breed and show) that have wonderful personalities and are easy to live with. All puppies are sold on contracts with health and replacement guarantees. Lifetime support is available to our puppy buyers and we encourage our puppy buyers to stay in contact with us throughout the life of the dog to give us better feedback on health issues and information about how well our breeding program is doing in producing healthy, quality individuals. We want our puppies to meet your expectations as a new family member and likewise, we want to be the best breeder and mentor for our extended "family" as possible.
